Winter Parking Regulations

In an effort to enhance winter road maintenance operations, the City has changed its seasonal parking regulations which begin December 1st and remain in effect until April 1st.  Parking is prohibited on any street in the City when the National Weather Service has issued any of the following winter storm messages for our area: winter weather advisory, winter storm warning or blizzard warning.  These parking restrictions will remain in effect for a period of 12 hours after the expiration of the winter storm message.  Vehicles parked in violation of these regulations may be cited and towed .  The vehicle owner will be responsible for all costs associated with the removal and storage of the vehicle.

2011 Property Taxes

City property tax bills were mailed on Tuesday, December 6.  The first payment or payment in full is due to the City of Elkhorn by January 31 of each year.  Any remaining balance is paid to the Walworth County Treasurer by July 31 of each year.  You may view your property tax bill online on the Walworth County website.

Each year; following the mailing of property tax bills, the City is frequently asked the question: "Where do my taxes go?"  This question may best be answered in two parts; one that addresses the total tax bill and another that considers the City's use of taxes.

Carbon Monoxide Threat Grows In Cold Weather

With the return of chilly temperatures, health officials remind people to be aware of carbon monoxide (CO) dangers, and to check their compliance with state law requiring carbon monoxide detectors in residences.  State law requires all one and two family dwellings to have carbon monoxide alarms.  Newly constructed homes require CO detectors that are directly wired to the home's electrical service and existing homes may use battery powered, stand-alone detectors.  State law also includes a similar requirement for multi-family dwellings.
