Parks and Recreation
In 2001, the Common Council recognized the need to provide its rapidly growing population improved parks and expanded recreational activities. The Parks and Recreation Department was established and a Director hired.
The Department, which is staffed by the Recreation Program Director and an Administrative Assistant are responsible for the development, delivery, and administration of all city-sponsored recreational programs as well as scheduling the use and rental of park facilities such as the Lions Den. Park properties and facilities are maintained by a two-person crew under the direction of the Department of Public Works.
The Recreation Director, Wendy Meyer and Administrative Assistant Rachel Richter develop and implement recreational activities for city residents and non-residents. Throughout the year, on a part time basis, the department employs a pool manager, lifeguards, summer recreation supervisor, recreation coordinator and youth recreation activity leaders.
