Leaf Collection
Leaf Collection is conducted twice a year, spring (see schedule below) and fall (see
schedule below). The City’s garbage/recycler,
Veolia
Services, is contracted to conduct the leaf collection. The City
will be divided into two sections during Leaf Collection.
Please rake leaves into the gutter no earlier than Saturday and
no later than 7:00am on the Tuesday of the scheduled week. Do not
place them in bags or boxes. Veolia will pick up the leaves from the
gutter. If you have any questions concerning Leaf Collection call
Veolia at (800)248-2373.
Seasonal leaf burning is allowed between April 1 - May 31 and
October 1 - November 30 each year without a permit. Requirements
are as follows:
- Burning shall occur on the resident’s property at a minimum
distance of 15 feet from any occupied dwelling.
- Do not burn on streets, sidewalks, terraces, or any other
location within the public right-of-way.
- No burning when wind is in excess of 18 miles per hour.
- Burning permitted between the hours of 8:00am to 8:00pm.
- You should contact the
Fire Department or City Hall prior to burning leaves for a copy of
the regulations that affect burning of leaves and/or to obtain a
permit.
Spring Leaf Collection
A “Spring Cleanup” will be available to residents starting in
April 2010 for two weeks only. This will allow residents the
ability to rake, thatch and conduct general yard cleanup early in
the spring. Veolia will be collecting the materials in the street
gutter just as they did with the “Fall Leaf” collection and
dispose of them. The City will be split into two (2) halves with
the east and west halves being separated by Wisconsin Street.
Grass clippings and walnuts can be raked in with the leaves. The
Spring Cleanup will start on April 6th for all properties on the east side of
Wisconsin Street and April 13th for the properties on the west side
of Wisconsin Street.
To participate, residents should do the following:
- Set out your yard cleanup materials prior to your
Tuesday collection date for your area (if placed curbside
after the start of your collection week, your materials may
be missed);
- Leaves should be raked into the gutter, not on the
terrace;
- DO NOT place in bags or boxes;
- This is NOT a brush collection, so please DO NOT bring
brush to the curb
Fall Leaf Collection
Leaf Collection during the Fall will start October 19th and end
the week of November 23rd, 2010. On Tuesday, October 21st Veolia will start collecting leaves
during the week starting with the west side of the City. On
Tuesday, October 26th they will start on the east side of
Wisconsin Street. Leaves should be raked into the gutter, not on the
terrace, and do not place in bags or boxes. Seasonal leaf burning
is allowed between October 1 and November 30 without a permit. You should contact the
Fire Department or City Hall prior to burning leaves for a copy of
the regulations that affect burning of leaves and/or to obtain a
permit.
Veolia has the contract for leaf collection for the City. It is
intended to be more responsive to the residents and a better
service than what was provided previously by the City.
