EMS Division
The rescue squad was formed in 1954. At this time it operated as a separate entity from the fire department. In 2003 the rescue squad merged with the fire department and the EMS Division was formed. The ambulance operates today at the Advanced EMT level. What does that mean? This means that the licensed AEMT is capable of starting intravenous lines for drug administration and fluid replacement. We carry medication and equipment essential to respiratory emergencies, metabolic emergencies, trauma and cardiac events. All members are American Heart Association CPR trained. We are also equipped with the Zoll AutoPulse, a non invasive cardiac support pump. The AutoPulse allows for our AEMT's to perform other necessary skills while patients still receive high quality CPR. The AutoPulse was donated by Aurora Healthcare in 2014.
The Elkhorn Area Fire Department responds to 911 calls in the City of Elkhorn, Town of Sugar Creek, Town of LaFayette, and the Town of Geneva including Geneva National. Together with the Fire Division we answer over 1500 calls per year and services over 100 miles of Walworth county.
The EMS Division regularly holds blood pressure screenings for the public, and is also capable of instructing CPR and first aid to citizens. If you are interested in learning CPR please contact the EMS Division for more information and to schedule a class.
